Ty Durant

Ty was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Type 3, when he was four years old. SMA is a rare neuromuscular disorder that is also considered a ‘muscle wasting disease’. SMA has affected Ty’s lower limbs and has taken away his ability to walk unassisted. While Ty has been blessed to be provided a treatment which is meant to halt the progression of the disease, assessments have shown that he requires hand controls to operate a motor vehicle. Thanks to the generosity of Hope 4 Mountain View Kids, Ty can continue to work towards the independence that he deserves and requires as he transitions into adulthood – Angie
I am so grateful for the Hope 4 Mountain View Kids for helping me acquire hand controls in our vehicle. It allows me to now drive independently, to drive to school and work, to hang out with friends and socialize, and a nice time saver for my mom in not having to drive me around anywhere! These hand controls give me the opportunity to say I can drive by myself, and many people with SMA do not have the chance to say that.
Without this generous gift, I would not be able to have the means to be fully independent and responsible for the adult life that is waiting right around the corner for me!
Thank you!
