The Zieverinks Family

We are so grateful to have been blessed to have found you and be given support for our daughter. We heard about Hope for MVC Kids from our pediatric office and although we felt down in the dumps as every avenue and door had been shut in our faces we decided to try one more time and thank the heavens we did!

Our 8 year old daughter Patrina (Trina) was diagnosed as the 1 in 5 students with a LD. But she was diagnosed not with one but 5 diagnoses including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, generalized anxiety and major depressive disorder in the summer of 2021. As parents we felt like our worlds just came crashing down and nothing would ever be the same. We felt a sense of sadness and hopelessness for our little girl.

Learning disabilities are so common but unfortunately misunderstood and often come hand in hand with mental health concerns. We thought how would our child become that veterinarian she’s been dreaming of becoming since she was two years old, would she ever read? Would she ever go to school happily again or would the rest of her school life be unhappy.

We reached out to ask about assistive technology as the school systems IEP plan only goes so far and still left our child in the dark with her learning. Hope 4 MVC kids were able to fund Trina for a C-pen. This reader pen has made a world of difference! Our beautiful little girl feels more independent than ever, she has read a whole book on her own and continues to expand her knowledge and independence daily! Although each day comes with its own set of hurdles we are beyond grateful that Trina was given a boost over that first hurdle. Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.-Albert Einstein

Lots of love, The Zieverinks
